T5 Post Icon “Anyone thinking of getting a conversion should read this!”

Having had a previous conversion done by a now defunct company in Yorkshire (at that time nobody in Scotland would touch a Transit roof), the hunt was on to find a company to do a conversion on our T5.

We sent off a few e-mails asking about timescales and prices for our specification, but most companies did not even reply. Those that did either wanted 50% up front or expected to have the van for at least 6 weeks.

We continued with our search and found Kestrel Van Conversions in Barnsley (right at the back of the Industrial Estate – not to be confused with the guy selling the T5s at the entrance). We got an instant response and a small deposit was sufficient to get the van booked in a month later. We were told a basic conversion (including insulating and lining) would take around a week, but we added on a few extras including Kiravans double swivel, front upholstery, extra windows, oven and Propex heating, so in the end the van was away just over 2 weeks.

After reading some of the horror conversion stories on this site, we were a bit apprehensive about what to expect as we could find virtually no reviews on Kestrel. We needn’t have worried – communication was second to none (emails usually returned within the hour), and having just collected the van, the quality of finish cannot be faulted. Although it was a 9 hour round trip it was well worthwhile – a brilliant job done by really decent guys at a great price.”
